Melanoma

Dr. Anand Ganesan joins the UCI Department of Dermatology as a clinical dermatologist and basic scientist. He joins the UCI faculty after a serving as a junior faculty member at UT Southwestern in
Dallas , where he developed a successful clinical practice and research program. He has significant experience with seeing all types of dermatology patients in both an indigent care and private practice setting. In addition to seeing patients in the university practice, Dr. Ganesan spent time volunteering in indigent clinics seeing dermatology patients. His areas of research and clinical focus include disorders of pigmentation and melanoma. In the research laboratory, Dr. Ganesan’s research work focuses on using novel genome wide approaches to identify the key genes that regulate pigmentation in our skin and regulate melanoma chemoresistance. Currently, he is developing methodologies to translate this genetic knowledge into readily applicable treatment strategies for melanoma and disorders of pigmentation.
Dr. Ganesan received his MD and PhD degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin . After a brief internship at St. Mary’s
Medical
Center in
Long Beach , Dr. Ganesan moved to
Dallas, Texas where he completed his dermatology residency and a fellowship in the physician scientist training program at UT Southwestern, a unique program that nurtures the careers of physician scientists. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
