Dr. Kelly earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Psychobiology. She continued at UCLA and earned her medical degree in 1993. From 1993 to 1994 she was an intermal medicine resident at St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach, a UCLA affiliate hospital. Upon completion of her internship, Dr. Kelly became a resident in Dermatology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She became the David Packard Fellow at the Beckman Laser Institute in 1998 and studied photobiology and light based therapeutics. She joined the UCI dermatology faculty and has been an active participant in clinial, reserach and teaching activities. In 2005, she became the residency program director of the UCI department of dermatology.
Dr. Kelly has received many awards and honors over the past years. She graduated from UCLA as Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. In medical school she was a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Society and in during her internship she was awarded Outstanding Intern of the Year. During her residency Dr. Kelly was voted Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Kelly is Board Certified in Dermatology, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Fellow in the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Her major areas of research interest are evaluation and treatment of cutaneous vascular lesions including port wine stain birthmarks and light based therapeutics. She has published 40 peer-reviewed articles and over 5 book chapters. She also lectures locally and nationally on these topics.
Dr. Kelly is an expert in laser treatments of pediatric and adult patients including port wine stain birthmarks, telangiectasia and other cutaneous entities. She also has a busy general dermatology practice which includes evaluation and treatment of pre-cancers, skin cancers and rashes.
