UC Irvine Dermatopathology

The Dermatopathology unit at the University of California, Irvine  has enjoyed decades of prominence in the dermpath arena. This section is under the direction of Senait Dyson MD, also a lymphoma expert.

Dr Dyson underwent her dermatology residency at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, and her dermatopathology fellowship with Victor Prieto MD/PhD and Ron Rapini MD in the Department of Pathology and Section of Dermatopathology at the University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.

Given her significant experience with pigmented lesions and lymphoma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, she is able to provide a trusted level of consultation service for complex path specimens. Her current clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma and melanoma, in addition to other complex dermatological conditions,  She works closely with the CHAO Family Cancer Center at UCIrvine Medical Center.

Dr Dyson’s current research projects include a retrospective study comparing the mortality rate of patients on topical vs systemic treatment for bullous pemphigoid in the United States.  In this regard, a new immunobullous reference laboratory is currently under construction in association with Dr Sergei Grando.

Dermpath has introduced the IntelliPath Pathology Management system, so as to serve the referring community better. Specifically, this new web based reporting system provides a very efficient service for our referring physicians. This system provides a quick turnaround time and convenient reporting such as HIPPA approved automatic faxing and web access of reports.  If you are interested in sending your tissue specimens or consultation slides to UCI, we would be very happy to serve you.
